Classic American Buttercream

July 15, 2024

Easy, delicious and the perfect topper to any cake/ cupcake or any dessert that you want to add some buttercream to. It’s a very stable buttercream that will be easy to pipe on your cakes/ decorate.

FYI this will be a white buttercream but feel free to add food coloring for your color of choice.

**mixer / hand mixer is recommended for this recipe**

Prep Time:15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients for the Meringue:
  • 1 cup room temperature butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or paste
  • 3 tablespoon heavy cream

Instructions:

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, add your butter and using the whisk attachment, whisk for about 5 minutes. Your butter should go from light yellow to white.

Step 2

Now that your butter is light and fluffy, start adding your salt, vanilla and slowly add your powdered sugar and mix until fluffy and all is combined.

Step 3

Your buttercream should already be formed, but I like to add a little heavy cream to make the buttercream a bit more smooth and silky.

Step 4

Mix your buttercream for about 5 minutes now that all of your ingredients are combined.

Step 5

That's it, you have buttercream! Feel free to add food coloring to make it any color you like and have fun decorating :)
