Churros <3
Homemade Churros that are easy, delicious and most importantly, heart shape!! It’s a fun activity to make alone or with someone.
** Mixer is recommended or a whisk**
Freeze Time:10 minutes
Prep Time:20 minutes
Cook Time:10 minutes
Total Time:40 minutes
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 stick of butter (unsalted)
- 3 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 tablespoon salt
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 3 cups oil for frying (I recommend a neutral oil)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
Instructions:
For the dough: In a pan, add your water, sugar and salt and butter and bring to a boil.
Once everything is melted and the liquids are boiling, turn off the heat and add your flour.
Mix until a bouncy dough/ firm paste is form and let it cool for about 10 minutes. ( I like to add to the mixer and let it mix for about 10 minutes until it's cooled but that's optional).
Once paste/ dough is cooled, either use mixed or whisk (yes to these arm muscles!!) and add your vanilla & eggs (one at the time) and mix until a stiff batter is formed.
Transfer batter into a piping bag (this is where you will add a star tip so you get that sharp lines on your churros but this is optional). You can also use a sandwich bag if you don't have a piping bag!
Pipe your churros into heart shape (I like to place mine on parchment paper that I pre-cut into small squares so I can fry it with them/ easy to remove and safe for high heat) or any shape you like and I like to freeze them for about 10 minutes.
In the meantime, warm up your oil.
Once your oil is hot, add your churros in and fry until golden brown. In the meantime, mix on the side the sugar and cinnamon and place on a flat surface ( I like to put mine on parchment paper so it's easy to clean up/ easy to coat).
Once your churros are golden brown, remove from heat and immediately coat in sugar and cinnamon so it sticks. Move to a cooling rack & enjoy hot or wait a few minutes for the ultimate experience!
Of course, it goes well with a chocolate dip or caramel! Just saying ;)

What does the oil temperature have to be at when you put the churros in the oil?
The best temperature would be 325 to 375oF! Let me know if you have any more questions. x
